i'd finally gotten my airport setup working perfectly when this &%$#?! update came out. since installing the update, one of the benefits of which is supposedly that it fixes a problem that was causing dropped connections, my connection drops at least once a day and usually more. this sucks big time.
i hope i can down-date.

After updating to 7.4.1 my wireless hp Photosmart 3310 (scanner only) stop communicating with my network. 7.4.2 did not fix this problem. I have to use older 7.3.2 which is working OK but I am bothered with messages about new available update and yellow light.

Now I have to go back in time.
Took 3 restarts with the paper clip to get back up and running. Everything looked good with the firmware update - until it didn't recover from the restart.
Had a steady yellow light. Power cycling it never displayed a green light - or even a flashing one.
Paper clip made the light go off - only when inserted.
Had to completely restore by holding the paper clip in the reset hole while plugging in power. Good thing I had a recent saved configuration!!!
Apple: Last update you guys removed support for my Laserwriter. This month I spent all night troubleshooting a routine update.
Next month: Linksys?

I just installed 7.1 and now WPA works great. I am set to 5Ghz N only. Before if I enabled WPA security my speed went to hell. I am on a cable modem connection and prior to 7.1 the best speed I could achieve with WPA on was 3meg. Now after 7.1 I no have speeds in excess of 10megs. Thankyou Apple I knew you would fix it.

This firmware gets a bit closer to stealth than the last. Still, I wish Apple would tell us why stealthing the firewall is uninportant. I also own a Linksys G router that works ok, fully stealthed, with my Macbook and AppleTV. That being said, this update does make my devices feel speedier, and closed ports are better than open. And the Airport Utility seems quite a bit snappier. If anyone has insight into this security issue I would be very grateful if you would share it. I have to recommend this update because it installed flawlessly- as I expect Apple updates to do- and it does have at least a positive subjective feel to it. But I am also begging Apple to start checking I.D.'s, I think someone from that other company stealthed their way in.

This message was submitted over wireless from iMac G5 through Airport Extreme post update. No problems here. Full signal strength on all machines.

I updated as soon as I saw this update on VersionTracker's RSS feed. AirPort Admin Utility also suggested the update (but the System Update didn't).
I updated from my PowerBook, using the WiFi network of my AirPort Extreme Base Station. The updater immediately saw my AEBS, and I had to enter my AEBS password to continue. After the firmware update, the AEBS restarted and everything was back to normal in less than a minute, including printing to my venerable 810C.
In short : no regressions caused by the new firmware ! Install without fear !

..who have taken the trouble to post here. Encouraged by your favourable experiences I did this upgrade last night and at last also did the AirPort 4.1 update. No hitches or glitches - everything went smoothly and fast and now everything is ticking along nicely - well, not ticking - a barely audible hum.
