Microsoft's browser will maintain the name Edge and will still look and feel the same, but the company plans to make changes under the hood that will better align the browser with current web.
Microsoft Edge, now available on iOS, creates one continuous browsing experience for Windows 10 users across their devices. Content and data sync seamlessly in the background, so users can browse across devices, without skipping a beat. Familiar Microsoft Edge features like the Hub allow users to organize the web in a way that cuts through the clutter, making it easier to find, view and manage their content on-the-go. Microsoft Edge is designed for Windows 10 users to browse the web how they need to, wherever they are, without disrupting their flow.
Continue on PC: Go anywhere and pick up where you left off by seamlessly moving content between your mobile device and PC (requires Windows 10 Fall Creator’s Update).
Data Sync: Your favourites, passwords and reading list are synced across your devices, so no matter the device, your browser is always personalised to you.
Hub View: With your favourites, reading list, history and books all in one place, finding and managing your content is made simple.
QR Code Reader: Easily read QR codes at the touch of a button. Microsoft Edge will pull up the reading and information right onto your screen.
Voice Search: You can now use your voice to search the web. Ask a question or speak a prompt to use the web in more natural, familiar ways.
InPrivate: When you browse with InPrivate mode, your browsing data (like your history, temporary internet files and cookies) isn't saved on your PC once you've finished.
Thanks for using Microsoft Edge! Read aloud (English pages only) is available with this update. This release also includes general bug fixes and performance improvements.
Tip: Are you a Microsoft Edge Insider (https://www.microsoftedgeinsider.com)? If so, you can now sync your mobile favorites with Microsoft Edge Insider Channels on your PC. Go to … > Settings > Accounts, tap your Microsoft account and select Sync, then choose Microsoft Edge Insider Channels.
The browser works well, I like that I can enable dark mode and that it syncs data between here and Edge on my computer. I like that there is an easy option to make a site render as it would on a desktop, nice touch. One issue I find though is that in comparison to Safari it takes a little too long to start up, the Edge loading screen is there for about 1-2 seconds, while this might seem trivial, when I’m trying to do a quick task that delay begins to get irritating compared to Safari which is ready instantly on open, so that is possibly the only thing preventing me from using Edge as my default browser.
Having used the browser for a while I am generally happy with it and it has found its way to becoming my default browsing app with Safari having been sidelined, however there are still bugs in the program that need addressing.
When opening a new tab, the 8 self populating quick links are now generating shortcuts to websites that have been opened using the Private Tab option and I would not expect these to be available in this manner, this seems like a fairly new issue as it never happened previously. The only way to get rid of them is to clear the browsing history. Also, I occasionally have difficulty where Edge will load a website but on scrolling down the page the screen does not refresh and it displays as if someone has literally cut the bottom of the page off. On a final note the continuity / timeline features only work for those with a personal Microsoft account, for those of us who have work assigned accounts these are not available and it would be most welcomed if Microsoft extended these add-ons to business users in the same vein.
i've decided to still give it five stars because overall it's very good and because I think feedback is more important than complaining.
One thing I have noticed Microsoft which I hope you will look into is, The feature in settings I have set correctly that is related to auto fill save name and password, The ask to save user name and password when you log in to a website you visit, Sadly this does not work Microsoft and example of one of the sites I try to use this was ebay uk. Hopefully you can have a look into this to see if you can fix.
Overall Microsoft other than the above mentioned, I really do like it.
